Greeting

Hi Friends! Welcome back to the Sing Along with Mandy Podcast. I’m Mandy, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I love to sing songs and play fun – and sometimes silly – games and I especially love to sing and play with you.

If you or your adult would like to see the lyrics to the songs in this episode, I’ll leave a link in the show notes. You can also find a video of us recording this episode there or on our Sing Along with Mandy Podcast channel on youtube.

If you don’t know a song yet, don’t worry! Just listen and sing along when you can. Are you ready? Let’s sing!

The Opposite Song

Activity: Sing Together: “The Opposite Song” http://resourcesforearlylearning.org/educators/activity/1455/

(sung to the tune of “Do You Know The Muffin Man?”)

Oh, do you know some opposites,

Some opposites,

Some opposites?

Oh, do you know some opposites?

Opposites are fun.

If I say stop, then you say go.

If I say yes, then you say no.

If I say fast, then you say slow.

Oh, opposites are fun.

If I say low, then you say high.

If I say hi, (wave hand), then you say bye.

If I say wet, then you say dry.

Oh, opposites are fun.

Take It Further: Encourage children to think of other opposites to include in the song. Other opposites might include dark/light, day/night, left/right, young/old, bought/sold, hot/cold, low/high, sell/buy, ground/sky.

Noble duke of york

The noble duke of york he had ten thousand men.

He marched them up to the top of the hill,

And he marched them down again!

Oh, when you’re up, you’re up;

And when you’re down, you’re down;

And when you’re only half-way up, you’re neither up nor down.

Polly put the kettle on

Polly, put the kettle on

Polly, put the kettle on

Polly, put the kettle on

We’ll all have tea

Sukey, take it off again

Sukey, take it off again

Sukey, take it off again

They’ve all gone away

Opposites Song

Sing this song together to the tune of “Jingle Bells.” A Preschool Theme on Opposites: Learning Through Songs, Games and Art brighthubeducation.com

Hot and cold, new and old,

Opposites I know.

Fat and thin, out and in,

Top and bottom, high and low.

Smile and frown, up and down,

Loud and quiet sounds.

Wet and dry, hello, good-bye,

And the shapes of square and round.

Do your ears hang low

Do your ears hang low?

Do they wobble to and fro?

Can you tie ’em in a knot?

Can you tie ’em in a bow?

Can you throw ’em o’er your shoulder

Like a Continental soldier?

Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears stand high?

Do they reach up to the sky?

Do they droop when they are wet?

Do they stiffen when they’re dry?

Can you wave them at your neighbor

With an element of flavor?

Do your ears stand high?
