Hello hello hello

For all our friends staying close to home!

Greeting

Hi Friends! Welcome back to the Sing Along with Mandy Podcast. I’m Mandy, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I love to sing songs and play fun – and sometimes silly – games and I especially love to sing and play with you.

Quick housekeeping announcement –  During these unprecedented times, Valerie and I are recording new episodes on Wednesdays 10a Central on Instagram live. You can find it in my stories for 24 hours at @singalongpodcast. We’re also putting the video on our new YouTube channel – so find us there or on YouTube Kids!

Now, if you or your adult would like to see the lyrics to the songs in this episode, I’ll leave a link in the show notes.  If you don’t know a song yet, don’t worry! Just listen and sing along when you can. Are you ready? Let’s sing!

To build a house, we need a hammer! You can change the name in this song to your name – I’ll change this one to Valerie 🙂

Johnny Pounds

Johnny pounds with 1 hammer, 1 hammer, 1 hammer.

Johnny pounds with 1 hammer, all day long.

Johnny pounds with 2 hammers, 2 hammers, 2 hammers,

Johnny pounds with 2 hammers, all day long.

Johnny pounds with 3 hammers, 3 hammers, 3 hammers,

Johnny pounds with 3 hammers, all day long.

Johnny pounds with 4 hammers, 4 hammers, 4 hammers,

Johnny pounds with 4 hammers, all day long.

Johnny pounds with 5 hammers, 5 hammers, 5 hammers,

Johnny pounds with 5 hammers, all day long.

Johnny now is so tired, so tired, so tired.

Johnny now is so tired all day long.

Johnny goes to sleep now, sleep now, sleep now.

Johnny goes to sleep now, all night long.

Nursery Rhymes

Old Woman in a Shoe – Mother’s Day! Nowtakeoff.com/mothers

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.

She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.

She gave them some broth without any bread;

And whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,

Had a wife but couldn’t keep her;

He put her in a pumpkin shell

And there he kept her very well.

Crooked Man – Cats episode nowtakeoff.com/cats

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.

He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.

He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,

And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

Hey Ho Nobody Home

Heigh ho, anybody home

Meat nor drink nor money have I none.

Yet will I be very, very merry.

Next, let’s do some fingerplays! I found these at storytimeKatie.com – a librarian’s blog about planning storytimes. I’ll leave a link in the show notes for you to check it out.

Fingerplay: “Here is a House”

Here is a house built up high (hands over head to make a roof)

With two big chimneys reaching for the sky (raise arms up high)

Here is a window (draw a square)

Here is a door (pretend to open a door)

If we look inside (peek through fingers)

There’s a mouse on the floor! (scamper fingers away)

Fingerplay: “Houses”

Here is a nest for robin (cup both hands)

Here is a hive for bee (fists together)

Here is a hole for bunny (make a circle)

And here is a house for ME! (make a roof)

Day Oh

Traditional Jamaican folk song sung by banana pickers – Shout out to my friend, Dr. Mary and her kiddos, Katie and Bradley! Dr. Mary suggested I add this song to the podcast months ago, I’m so glad to sing it now! And, shout out to all the essential workers in the fields and stores and factories making sure that the world has food to eat.

Day-o! Day-o!

Daylight come and me wanna go home.

Come, Mister tally man,

Come tally me banana.

Daylight come and me wanna go home.

Six hand, seven hand, eight hand, bunch!

Six hand, seven hand, eight hand, bunch!

Daylight come and me wanna go home.

(Chorus)

We load bananas till the early light.

Sleep all day and work all night.

Daylight come and me wanna go home.

(Chorus)

Sing your Way Home

Sing your way home

at the close of the day.

Sing your way home,

drive the shadows away.

Smile every mile

For wherever you roam

It will brighten your road,

It will lighten your load,

If you sing your way home.
