Hello hello hello
Did you wake up to a world covered in snow this morning? Today’s songs all celebrate playing in the snow – and it’s perfect for a snow day!
Greeting
Hi Friends! Welcome back to the Sing Along with Mandy Podcast. I’m Mandy, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I love to sing songs and play fun – and sometimes silly – games and I especially love to sing and play with you.
If you or your adult would like to see the lyrics to the songs in this episode, I’ll leave a link in the show notes. If you don’t know a song yet, don’t worry! Just listen and sing along when you can. Are you ready? Let’s sing!
Our first song today is called Dance Like Snowflakes. It’s sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping?
Dance Like Snowflakes
(Sung to Are You Sleeping)
Dance like snowflakes,
dance like snowflakes
In the air, in the air
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Here and there, here and there
I found that song on an old blog called Oocities and it was submitted by Carol. I’ll leave a link to oocities in the show notes for you.
Our next rhyme is a finger play! I’ll tell you the words and actions and then repeat it a second time once you know what to do.
Chubby little snowman
A chubby little snowman (Hold your arms in a circle to make a fat belly)
Had a carrot nose. (Point your forefinger out from your nose.)
Along came a bunny. (Make a bunny with your fingers. Make it hop.)
And what do you suppose? (Turn palms upward and shrug in disbelief.)
That hungry little bunny (Rub your tummy.)
Looking for his lunch (Shade your eyes, as if looking into the distance)
Ate that snowman’s carrot nose (Make a bunny with one hand and a carrot with the other.)
Nibble, nibble, CRUNCH! (Make the bunny eat the carrot with two small bites and a final big bite.)
Grown ups, if you like what you hear, will you help me reach more little listeners? I would be so grateful if you would you share a video or picture of your kids singing along or you can even take a screenshot of the podcast. Be sure to tag me in it so I can say hi! I’m at the @singalongpodcast on IG and FB and @PodcastSing on Twitter.
Our next song is called Snowflakes and it’s sung to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. I’ll tell you the words and motions and then sing it again when you know what to do!
Snowflakes
(sung to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
To begin, stand up with your hands in the air.
Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around, Dance and spin around in circles.
Snowflakes, snowflakes touch the ground. Wiggle your fingers, then touch them to the floor.
Snowflakes, snowflakes in the air, Repeat movements.
Snowflakes, snowflakes everywhere.
Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around,
Snowflakes, snowflakes touch the ground.
I found that song on a website called Teach Preschool by Dr. Deborah Stewart. I’ll leave a link to the blog in the show notes.
Rhythm repeat
Let’s play our Rhythm Repeat game! First, let’s warm up our hands with a drumroll. Use you hands to slap your thighs! (drumroll)
Can you clap your hands? (clap) Can you snap your fingers? (snap) Can you slap your knees? (Slap) I call this next game Rhythm Repeat. It’s very easy.
I’m going to say some very silly words and then you repeat them. You can clap, snap and slap along too!
My turn, your turn, 8 rounds]
The next three songs and rhymes come from that oocities blog!
First is
We Like Snow
(Tune: Three Blind Mice)
We like snow!
We like snow!
Out we go.
It covers the houses and fills the trees.
It’s fun for sleds and it’s fun for skiis.
We’ll stay outdoors till our noses freeze
“Cause we like snow!
Five Little Snowflakes
Submitted by Carol
Five little snowflakes
Dancing here and there.
Then one little snowflake blew away in the air!
Four little snowflakes
Dancing here and there.
Then one little snowflake blew away in the air!
Continue to zero.
Zero little snowflakes
Not one to be found.
Cause five little snowflakes have fallen to the ground!
Seven Silly Snowmen- Submitted by Lisa in VA
Seven silly snowmen
Sitting side by side.
Out came the sun
And they had to hide.
Two behind the small skidoo,
Two behind the tree,
Two behind the snowbank,
And one behind me.
Winter (mother goose)
Cold and raw the north wind doth blow,
Bleak in the morning early;
All the hills are covered with snow,
And winter’s now come fairly.
For our last two songs today, you can play with some of your stuffed animals and an old winter hat. If you are in the car or can’t get to those things right now, you can always pretend with your hands!
Our next song is called The Hat is in the Snow. It’s sung to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell. Valerie and I grabbed a few of her favorite stuffed animals and puppets to sing this song – but you can change the animal names to match yours!
The Hat is in the Snow
Sung to the tune of The farmer in the dell. – Dr. Deborah Stewart – blog and website Teach Preschool
The hat is in the snow,
the hat is in the snow
Help us please so we don’t freeze
the hat is in the snow.
A __________ squeezes in,
a__________ squeezes in,
Help us please so we don’t freeze
The hat is in the snow.
I found this song on a blog called Teach Preschool by Dr. Deborah Stewart. I’ll leave a link in the show notes if you want to check it out.
Our next song is called Mr. Raccoon. I found it on an oocities site and it was submitted by Carol. It’s sung to the tune of Frere Jacques. You can use your stuffed animals in this song too!
Mr. Raccoon– Submitted by Carol – oocities
( Frere Jacques)
Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping?
Mr. Raccoon? Mr. Raccoon?
All the snow is falling; All the snow is falling
Sleep, sleep, snooze; Sleep, sleep, snooze
Other verses: Mrs. Bear, Mr. Snake, etc.
